My name is Tess E. Baldwin. I am a former New York City tour guide, public historian, and writer. For over ten years I have been writing about and researching various fascinating aspects New York City history, and I have collaborated with the New-York Historical Society, the Museum of the City of New York, the BBC, and Untapped Cities, among others.

I am a proud two-time CUNY graduate, holding a BA in non-fiction from Hunter College and an MPH in Health Policy and Management from the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy.

Particular interests of mine include subway and railroading history, the history of New Netherland and New Amsterdam, military history (particularly of the American Revolution and the Civil War), folklore of New York (I am a certified Washington Irving fan gal), and public health history.

Over the years I have shared over 15,000 views, photographs, documents, and other materials I have gathered during my research. I have shared many of them on social media websites, some of which are now dormant, so my aim is to display them here. In addition to providing a historical gallery (always a work in progress!), I will be writing blog entries as well, in order to contribute in my own way to the ever expanding scholarship of our wonderful city.
